    Competitive Movesets

Post by Blackjack on Sat Aug 13, 2011 3:39 pm

Hiya there! I had the idea of share here movesets for existing or created Pokémon that you think are good.

I will start with my Hydreigon moveset.

    Hydreigon @Life Orb
    Trait: Levitate
    - Dark Pulse
    - Earthquake
    - Draco Meteor
    - Focus Blast
    EVs: 252 Sp.Atk/ 156 Spd/ 80 Atk
    Rash Nature

Hydreigon is pretty powerful, with good attack and 125 Sp.Atk. So, it is a Special Sweeper. But, for coverage, I decide to use it as a Mixed Sweeper. Dark Pulse. STAB, coverage, flinch. Perfect. And boosted with Life Orb. Earthquake. Destroy Steels. That is the major reason that it is there. Draco Meteor, 140 base power, Life Orb, STAB, and 125 Sp.Atk? Max Power. Focus Blast for other option for Steel and for coverage.

And, for a created Pokémon, Krolectron moveset.

    Krolectron @Life Orb
    Trait: Conductivity
    - Exo Spark
    - Earthquake
    - Ice Punch
    - Hammer Arm
    EVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Spd
    Adamant Nature
Ok. Presenting Krolectron. Exo Spark, STAB and power and it paralyzes. But it also paralyzes yourself. Earthquake. STAB, 100 damage and accuracy and 1 inmunity, covered by Exo Spark. Point. Ice Punch. For Dragons, Grounds and Grasses. Hammer Arm. Darks, Ices, Steels, Rocks, all of the fall to this.

    There they are.
    See ya!

It would help everybody if you gave explanations for the movesets.

    Dragonite @ Leftovers
    Multiscale
    Adamant/Jolly
    252 HP / 44 Atk / 212 Spe
    - Dragon Dance
    - Dragon Claw / Outrage
    - Fire Punch
    - Roost

Dragonite's incredible bulk combined with Multiscale pretty much guarantees that it'll be able to get in a Dragon Dance. This increases its Attack and Speed, so choose your nature carefully depending on if you want more attack or more speed. Dragon Claw is basic STAB, but you could go with Outrage if you really need more power. It's not recommended, however, since steel walls will be able to easily switch in to you. Fire Punch gets rid of aforementioned Steels like Bronzong. Roost keeps you healthy and may allow Multiscale to work again.

    Shuckle's moveset!!

Post by Itsme on Sun Aug 14, 2011 11:50 am

Well shuckle is a small pokemon that I think it's in the UU/NU tier
This is my moveset for it:

    Shuckle@leftovers
    Sturdy
Any nature that lowers ATT, Sp ATT or SPD but raises DEF or Sp DEF
    DEF 252/Sp DEF 252/HP 4
    -Gyro ball
    -Power split/Power trick
    -Protect/Encore
    -Stealth rock/Stone edge/Rock slide

We all know that shuckle has the best defenses in the game, But with 20 HP it will not take hits like a tank. And with 10 ATT 10 Ap ATT and 5 SPD this is so stupidly weak to consider it as a sweeper. Not so fast, with trick room in play, this pokemon can be deadly, it has the right tools to get the job done. It will not sweep an entire team but it can still get a kill or just ruin a sweeper.
Under trick room effect, use power split, it will give you and the opponent the same ATT and Sp ATT power, cutting the opponent's ATT by half since you only have 10 Pts in each attack stat. So now the opponent can ATT as much as he likes but with defenses like yours you can dish out everything. With 5 speed, Gyro ball is an amaizing attack coming from a boosted attack stat it will hit with max power on pokemon with only 40 speed.
This was the main composition of the set... As for the others, protect keeps you alive for an additional turn and stall for leftovers recovery. Encore can punish anything that try to boost it's broken attack or do something stupid. Stealth rock can be on a leading shuckle wich can be really useful for team members. Stone edge and rock slide can provide so STAB attacks to the set with weak coverage with steel but it can be worse.

You can use Power trick in place of Power split if you wanted obscene power in ATT especially with gyro ball that will destroy anything even 4x resistant to steel
(230 ATT power with 150 power move... Do the maths). The downside of this is that shuckle will probably be destroyed by any priority move in the next turn. No matter how fast you are priority still strikes before you do!

Note: -Trick room will not affect the effect of gyro ball as shuckle will still have that 5 base speed wich means that under trick room shuckle will always strike first except against priority moves.
-Sturdy is necessary in this set cz it will gurantee you to use power split/power trick successfully.

    Defensive Weezing
    Weezing- @Black Sludge
    Nature- Calm (+Sp.Def, -Atk)
    -Stockpile
    -Pain Split
    -Will-o-wisp/Toxic
    -Flamethrower/Venoshock/Clear Smog
    EVs- 252 HP, 252 Sp.Def, 4 Sp.Atk

This set takes advantage of of Weezing's most important move for 5th gen, Stockpile, which allows Weezing to boost its Special Defense to usable levels. Pain Split, while unreliable allows for decent recovery. Will-o-wisp is recommended for Weezing's physical bulk, though Toxic is also an option for wearing down the opponent. For the final move, Flamethrower is a good option to give decent overage against almost everything. Flamethrower is used over Fire blast to prevent PP problems. Venoshock also works as a strong, double powered STAB, though it can leave you a sitting duck to any steel type that comes along. Finally Clear smog, a new toy of weezing's, Can eliminate all stat changes on the opponent, Increasing Weezing's longevity.

I always loved using Weezing as a physical wall. That set looks perfect.

    My Serperior set:

    Serperior @Leftovers
    Trait: Contrary
    - Leaf Storm
    - Glare
    - Giga Drain
    - Iron Tail
    EVs: 252Atk/ 252 Spd/ 4 HP
    Timid Nature

This set uses Contrary. You hit 1 or 2 times with Leaf Storm and you get free boosts. Then Giga Drain for recovering the HP that you would lose in that turns. Glare is used first, for paralyze. Iron Tail is for Ices.

^ Glare is pretty unreliable due to its accuracy, just thought I'd point that out. Also, Iron Tail doesn't benefit from the Leaf Storm boosts, although it's probably the only choice on account of Serperior's awful movepool. Also, that set is illegal unless it's on a Dream World PO server, since Contrary Snivy isn't released in the DW yet.

    Shedinja's set!

Post by Itsme on Tue Aug 23, 2011 8:53 am

    Shedinja @ Shed shell/Muscle band/Focus sash
    Ability: wonder guard
    Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 ATT and the others... Whatever! maybe speed but not if it is in a trick room team.
    Moves:
    -Shadow sneak/Shadow claw
    -Hone claws
    -X-scissor
    -Heal block/Sucker punch/Wil-o-wisp/Toxic

I like gimmick pokemon and shedinja is my favorite... I know it wouldn't do much but why not try this set! It looks good (On paper).

What shedinja really need is trick room support!!! If it is active, run Shadow claw, if not, run shadow sneak as priority move. X-scissor is shedinja's strongest physical bug type attack and gets coverage on grass, psychic and dark. Hone claws can boost your ATT and accuracy (although the latter is not necessary). As for final move slot you can run Sucker punch to try and damage your opponent if they need to ATT you wich is probably what they will be doing so you get them first. Heal block can force switches or prevent opponent from recovering. Will-o-wisp and toxic are two statusing moves that also damages the opponent... Will-o-wisp notably is good cz it ruins any physical sweeper and benefits from the boost from hone claws!!

As for items, for me three can be good on shedinja
-Shed shell allows shedinja to switch out even if the opponent used mean look or has the arena trap or shadow tag ability especially it will run from shandelure Wink(if it will see one).
-Muscle band gives you a little boost in ATT without making you use the same ATT.
-Focus sash keeps you alive for another turn surviving one super effective hit! It's like a free protect considering shedinja only has 1HP!

I'm actually training a Shedinja right now, only it's made for Doubles. Instead of Hone Claws it has Sunny Day and it has Protect in the last slot. Also, the item is Focus Sash.

Actually, Shedinja should have Swords Dance rather than Hone claws, since the accuracy boost is useless. Shedinja is best on triples.

    Thinking on a classic one.

    Reuniclus @Leftovers
    Trait: Magic Guard
    - Psychic
    - Calm Mind
    - Recover
    - Focus Blast
    EVs: 252 Sp.Atk /156 HP/ 80 Sp.Def
    Modest Nature

Basic and classic Reuniclus set. Psychic is STAB, great power and a chance of lower foe's Sp.Def. Calm Mind gives you higher Sp.Atk and makes you bulkier. Recover is obvious. Focus Blast for coverage against Darks, Steels, Ices, etc.

Focus Blast is unreliable, and special. Chansey and Blissey absorb special attacks like they're nothing, even with the type advantage.

I believe that that particular Reuniclus set is Anti-Stall. And Anti-Offence set would use Trick Room.

Also, Sunny Day on Shedinja is to disable other weather that could kill you.

    Free as a Butter?

Post by Itsme on Tue Aug 30, 2011 11:24 am

Those are my sets for butterfree... One for each ability it got cz it has two very good abilities, but I defenitely favor compoudeyes cz that what gives butterfree it's niche. And that is to be able to use unreliable statusing moves successfully. Butterfree has very bad stats for a final evolution... But who expect better stats for a pokemon coming from a worm and a cocoon... No pun intended cz butterfree's line is one of my favorites. In 5th gen Butterfree got quiver dance, though it's not the best user of quiver dance in the game it still pretty good boosting 3 stats at the same time and for butterfree those are the highest stats it got.

    So here is the set:
    Butterfree@Silverpowder
    Ability:Compoudeyes
    nature:Modest/Timid
EVs: 252 SpATT/ 252SPD/ remaining HP or Sp DEF
    Moves:
    -Quiver dance
    -Bug buzz
    -Psychic/Shadow ball
    -Toxic/Sleep powder/ Stun spore

This butterfree and most other butterfrees work best under reflect set up from teammate. Butterfree has 50 BS on DEF, reflect doubles it to 100 wich is pretty good. As for Sp DEF this is boosted alongside Sp ATT and Speed by quiver dance. Bug buzz is strong and reliable. Psychic is also strong and has a chance of lowering the target Sp DEF. Shadow ball is weaker but has a higher chance of doing the same effect as Psychic. But Bug/Psuchic combo is resisted by bugs and steel pretty well and Bug/Ghost combo is only resisted by Steel. In the final move slot is what you need to shut down a counter (and butterfree has a lot) Toxic has 100% with compoudeyes while sleep powder and stun spore has 97.5% pretty good! Between the three I personally prefer sleep powder obviously!

    Butterfree@silver powder
    Ability: Tinted lens
Same as above in the rest
    Moves:
    -Quiver dance
    -Bug buzz
    -Psychic/Shadow ball
    -Whirlwind/Roost
Same as above but now bug/psychic or bug/Ghost has a perfect coverage thanks to tinted lens except for 4x bug and psychic resitant pokemon that I don't think it exists.
In the last slot is whirlwind to try and dodge any counter your opponent may throw at your face.
Note: Here also you might want to run butterfree with reflect activated and alongside a good rapid spinner. starmie gets a mention since it can do both things.
Butterfree gets roost via dream world so you can put in place of whirlwind for good recovery.

New moveset. I'm going to use this on my Luxray.

    Luxray @ Flame Orb
    Guts.
    - Wild Charge
    - Ice Fang
    - Crunch
    - Facade
    EVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Spd/ 4 HP
    Jolly Nature.

I know that it isn't a good Pokémon. But I like it. It gained a new toy this gen: Guts. So, I'm going to abuse Guts as much as I can. Wild Charge is STAB, and with Guts becomes powerful. Ice Fang is for coverage, but originally, I put in that slot Double Kick, because I don't want Luxray against a Ground-type Pokémon. Crunch is because Luxray awful movepool, but it can help a bit. Facade. This is the big bonus. Guts + 140 Base Power + 130 Base Attack = That hurts. Enjoy switching into that. (I think that it works like that.)

Good set... But in place of crunch I might put in thunder wave to try and compensate for my medium speed or roar to return a pokemon that I don't want to face. And luxray's base ATT is 120 not 130!

you'll also want to replace the burn orb with a toxic orb, burn halves the attack stat.

And Burn will punish Trick users more.

Anyways, as for the set, move all the SpA EVs into Speed. It has no special moves, and it could use the extra speed.
