Just make sure the design doesn't just look like a cartoon animal. (That's why Ducklett sucked). The design has to have some depth and include features that make it different from regular animals.

that is the 2nd evo. here is my hand drawing of Mallad maybe there can be more detail but i wanted it to be sorta simple cuz i was really hoping it would get to be the grass starter:

    A grass/flying starter actually isn't a bad idea.

By the way, I forgot to ask, what kind of duck did this originate from? And any certain kind of plant?

jwoo, now you are frequently on the site, you could improve the OP including mallad's evolution... I haven't seen the evolution's design i think it looks awesome;it's 100% "pokemonish" and far better than mallad itself. I think i'm going to make a sprite of it if you want,of course.

it would be great if you could make a sprite of its evo Very Happy i wanted to keep mallad simple since its a fist evo thats why its so plain

I suggest you make the 2nd evo the 1st, and the 3rd the 2nd.

I agree. I really don't see any need for this to be a three pokemon line. I guess it can't be the regional bird line(Pidgey, hoothoot, tailow, ect.) since it's not flying/normal, but I think it could be kind of the grass equivilent of ducklett/swanna.

actually i wass hoping to have this line be grass starter because grass/flying would be pretty unique. thats why i need mallad as the first evo if someone could maybe add some better detail to mallad for me that would be great Razz

I'm not sure if this would work as the grass starter, it's kind of traditional for the Grass-starter to be reptillian. No offense, I do like this guy.

Let mallad's evolution be Mallad itself and the other drawing you made could be mallad's evolution. Now, you could draw the 3rd evolution and post the lineage as a starter candidate. If it looses the votation, i think it would fit quite good as the typical bird lineage despite being grass-fly instead of normal-fly,remember Bibariel was normal-water!

To be perfectly honest, I think this needs more to make it a Grass type than looking green. The details won't show up in a sprite, and we'll be left with a green duck. Also, we should at least keep to some traditions regarding starters, in my opinion.

In fact it has leafs growing on it's body but as jwoo said they don't appear clearly on the sprite. My idea would be to replace this sprite by one based on the second drawing he did. Anyway, we should jwoo make up his mind in first place.

PS;jwoo, i have been thinking on the evolution's sprite; in the artwork, mallad's evolution is looking backwards, could you make an artwork with it looking frontwards? I wouldn't like to invent anything while doing the sprite Wink . (remember the leafs drawn in that artwork will appear in the backsprite)

Well, you can make the sprite position in acertain way that shows the leaves on the tail. You can also deploy the wings that can be leafy and maybe a flower somewhere on the body (Probably the head) would be good too to show it's grass typing!

actually the leaves will show up because in the drawings their bodies are facing forwards and their heads are facing sideways
