Starter Discussion

I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread like this so... Here is a thread where we can discuss which starters should be chosen. These are the suggestions I have seen:

GRASS:
Mallad line by Jwoo
Tulizard line by Just_Testing

Doro line by Lyrebirdgirl
FIRE:
Flarret line by Ferrety

WATER:
Catscade line by Frostichu
Pachystar line by terwynd
Droplet line by Lyrebirdgirl

So...Tell me if I missed anything. Discuss.

As for Grass, I'd like a unique type for a starter rather than just plain grass which we've had for a few gens. Grass/flying would be cool, but I don't think something as ordinary as Mallad would cut it for a starter. Something with an exciting origin or execution, like Jumpluff.

I really like Tulizard. I think his final evo could work as a grass/dragon, although a dragon starter could be overpowered. maybe a grass/fighting?

While I do like Mallad, I really think we should stick to the tradition of having a reptillian Grass-starter. I was thinking something similar to a Pacman Frog would be cool.

^ A frog grass starter wouldn't be that bad of an idea. But what would its secondary type be? Like I said, I'm kind of tired of pure grass starters.

Pacman Frogs hate water, so maybe Dark, because they're very aggressive. Or maybe poison, because they eat a lot (kind of like Swalot).

For the fire starter I really like flarret... but coming to think about it... we need some fire types in our game!

For the water type I vote the catscade family line... I don't like the pachystar family... the droplet family is fine too but I thought for a change we can have a cute final form starter.

The grass starter I go with tulizard but we need to change that "zard" in the end maybe with "rex" for T-rex "Tulirex". Mallad have a bad typing for a starter Grass/Flying is not ideal for a starter cz it will be overpowered by the other two starters due to it's weaknesses.

Tulizard/Tulirex can be a Grass/Steel I mean why not?

I have some ideas for starters. I have to upload the images yet.

First, there is Lacrosun. A Fire/Steel lizard. I really like the design.

Then, there is Bolcean. Somewhat of an otter. Water/Electric.

And, there's Mostusk. A freaking elephant made from grass and rocks. Mossy. Grass/Rock.

^ It's best not to use starters with good offensive types, like electric. Starters are meant to go with secondary types that aren't as good on their own, like ground and steel. Water/Electric might not be a good type for a starter.

Also, grass/rock makes it so that it's no longer weak to fire, and that breaks the starter type circle of fire/water/grass. Something similar happened in gen IV with Torterra and Empoleon, but Torterra had a secondary ground typing to make up for it.

Yeah, and it's tradition to have the Fire-started based of a warm blooded animal. I'm sorry, but I want to keep to the tradition that the starters keep to, excepting the Fire/Fighting thing because that's just plain obnoxious.

Charizard isn't warm blooded.

Wait. Charizard is warm blooded? And please, is a lizard with magma on its body. And Grass/Rock mean that is beaten by Steel. There's your cycle.

Oh, forget it.

I usually think of Dragons as warm blooded. But anyway, at least since Cindaquil they've been warm blooded. Hedgehog, Chicken, Primate, Boar.

And? That doesn't mean that you cannot use a lizard. And, as you said, Charizard is a dragon, so I'm not repeating concept.

I never said you were repeating a concept, I'm just saying your braking a tradition I think it is important to keep.

Problem here is that the water starter is part steel, not the fire one.

Who said that? I said that Lacrosunis Fire/Steel. Not Bolcean.

I personally think it's fine. The real tradition with the fire starters is the zodiac (if you can call Typhlosion a rat), so we have the ox, tiger, rabbit, snake, horse, sheep, and dog.

No offense or anything, but since when did you decide what tradition is "real"? I'm not upset or anything... I just wanted to make that point, y'know?

Oh, don't worry, . I just thought that that one made more sense than the warm blooded thing. I'd say that one was more than enough to break the pattern.

You forgot Doro, from Lyrebirdgirl! I think we should wait (or make) a fire type candidate too. If DiZ wants to post his recommendations,fantastic, but remember DiZ; one post for every single lineage! It would be good to see your creations and to discuss types...

It'd be nice of someone posted another Fire starter candidate, mostly to give me the motivation to finish Flarret.

I have an idea for a Grass started, and I guess I could make a Fire-started. I'd personally like to make it an Echidna, but I suppose they're not in the Zodiac... maybe a Tiger then.

It's sort of rodent-like, so it'd fit under rat, but Cyndaquil already took that spot, in addition to being an echinda. A tiger would be cool, and the final evo could be fire/dark.

The problem with making a tiger is that cat designs in pokemon hardly ever turn out looking good... it might be pretty hard to get right. I would personally like to see a sheep fire starter, maybe with fiery wool like Flareon.
