    The Name of the Game

Post by Gelatino95 on Mon May 16, 2011 10:46 pm

Every pokemon game has a title. Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, Soul Silver, Black, and White (to name a few). Our game has to have a name based on a concept different from the ones that Game Freak made.
    __________________________________________________________

As many of the previous games have been named on types of minerals, I want to follow the same route. I want to make one version igneous, the other sedimentary, and the third version metamorphic. Here are a few examples of those that would make good titles:

    Igneous:
    - Obsidian
    - Granite
    - Basalt

    Sedimentary:
    - Clay
    - Mica
    - Sandstone
    - Limestone
    - Shale

    Metamorphic:
    - Quartz
    - Feldspar
    - Marble
    - Slate
    __________________________________________________________

Another idea that I had was to name the game after metals, some examples being:

    - Iron
    - Tin
    - Nickel
    - Copper
    - Bronze
    - Steel
    - Cobalt

My personal favorites are Iron, Copper, and Cobalt.
    __________________________________________________________

Those are my two ideas. I encourage you to come up with your own ideas and share them with us.

I'm honestly not a fan of the suggestions, I suggest we finish the Pokemon first, then go to naming.

Well, for imaginary: I like this. For the RPGmaker game, I think it would just be a hassle to make more than one version.

However, I think I like Poke'mon Bronze the most.

Another possibility is Poke'mon FlygonGreen, but I liek Bronze more.

I love Obsidian. It sounds incredibly powerful, making our main legendary (whatever it may be) seem incredibly powerful too.

I do really like Obsidian. It was one of my favorite ideas, along with Cobalt. I really like them both. The reason I wanted to make it Igneous and Sedimentary is because I have some cool potential mascots that I came up with that are based off of igneous and sedimentary rocks.

I would really like to make two games, but I suppose one is enough.

Obsidian is okay, but the only one I really like is Sandstone.

And, I guess two would only be small tweaks... although it's up to whoever makes the game (or, if it is even made).

Trading is impossible on PC, so with 2 versions the Pokedex can't be completed. As for the name Sandstone, I feel it sounds a little dull. It just won't show our main legendary as strong and powerful.

I agree. Sandstone = BORING. Seems like everybody likes Obsidian, so Obsidian = COOL.

And one version sounds good. We can set up the game as if it were one of two separate versions, with a version mascot, and a parallel for the version mascot that you can catch later at a higher level.

Fine. If you want to go that way, I still would stick with Sandstone. But, then I again I just really love hot dry places (deserts), I just really like them, don't exactly know why. Sandstone is also very breathtaking when you see the formations.

Not that I'll argue with you or anything, but Obsidian (in reality) is a really weak stone. Although very sharp.

We'll probably use Sandstone as the name of one of the areas in the game, since you like it so much. And I'm pretty fond of it myself. Maybe we'll make it the name of the desert in the Northern part of the region. "Sandstone Ruins" would be a great name for a dungeon to hide a legendary inside.

You don't have to name it after Sandstone, I don't like it that much, even if it sounded like that, I was just pointing out that I'm more fond of it than others.

Also, you said it was boring now you say you're pretty fond of it?

Sandstone Ruins does sound pretty nice though...

I think Sandstone is boring as a game title, but not as a desert temple.

What about copper and tin versions? Then for the third game, we can have bronze version.

Wow, I have to admit that's a pretty good idea. Seeing as Bronze is an alloy of Tin and Copper.

Yes, copper and tin would make great game titles. Bronze totally makes sense, too. But if we're going to make two different versions with different pokemon, we're going to need to find a way of making the other version's pokemon available. Because obviously, trading will be impossible.

well, that's obvious, in game trading, and in gold and silver, you could catch both legendarys

May I ask what making 2 versions would actually give? All it seems like it'll do is make the game more complicated to make.

That's a good point. We'd have to find someway to trade to make all versions worthwhile.

I suppose it's settled, then. We'll make just one version, and maybe make an updated version later like the other games did. If there's any dissent, we can put it up to vote.

So, as for a name, we have a few options that people liked:

    - Obsidian
    - Bronze
    - Copper
    - Tin
    - Cobalt

I personally prefer either Cobalt or Obsidian, as the other ones would only work well in a set of three.

I'm not very big on Obsidian or Cobalt. However, your right, Bronze, Tin and Copper would have to be together...

    How about Zirconium?

Zirconium is too big and complicated. Not catchy enough for a pokemon game. Plus, it doesn't sound awesome. Like Obsidian or COBALT.

Okay. If you insist, I'll go for Obsidian. But, to be honest, I don't like it much.

I've compiled a very short list of good elemental names:

    Neon
    Lithium
    Titanium
    Radon

I personally like Titanium the best, but being such an awesome name, chances are it's already been used. I also like Neon, though. It would make a good title, I think.

No-one on YouTube's done Radon. Hooray! I actually like the name Pokemon Radon, it sounds mysterious.

    Neon
    Lithium
    Titanium
    Radon
    (Strike means taken)

Here are some of my ideas:
    Axinite
    Nacre
    Uvarovite
    Xenotime
    Lapis lazuli

feel free to cross out/tell me what is taken.

P.S. my personal favorite is Nacre.

EDIT: I like Radon, but I thought we were doing minerals. Radon is a gas.
