Gym Leader(s) idea

We don't have any Gym Leaders for this imaginary/fan-made region, so I was trying to think of ideas for Gym Leaders, when I came across the Bulbapedia page for the Dark-type:

Notably, the Dark-type is the only type that has never had a Pokémon Gym specialize in it.

This reminded me of Hydreigon9, who said he really liked Dark-types. So, I thought: hey, what if we modeled the Gym Leaders after members of NGP? It wouldn't be too obvious, however, they'd have vaguely similar names (e.g., Sky Kipp, Kyle Nine, Lord Dominic, Jelo ect.) and specialize in the user's favorite type (or, if they don't have a favorite type, whatever type they find most useful).

While I do like this idea, I feel that us as trainers would be better as a post-game challenge. Nonetheless, if we do do this, I'd quite like to be in the Elite 4 (Come on, we can't just break a theme here, right?)

Those are good points. Being post-game trainers would be pretty cool.

Yeah. There's this other fangame I know of that's doing that, so it could be something to look into. However, if we really can't think of Gym Leader ideas, I would have no problem basing them of users here.

I'm already the champion. Think about it, Ghost is my favorite type, and Flygon is my favorite pokemon. Fauntleroy is going to specialize in Ghost type, but is also going to own a Flygon due to it being the site mascot. It's genius.

Anyway, perhaps it's a good idea to model the gym leaders after us. After all, we made the game. However, it's probably best if we don't use the naming system. It would be a better idea to make the gym leader names correspond with their type, like in past games. However, we can probably use our favorite types, and maybe our favorite pokemon too.

How did you get that past us !?!

Anyways, I like the idea of still using theme naming. It lets us put more personality than just using stuff similar to our forum names.

Based on the example, we are going to use pokemon from other regions, right? (I really dislike what they did with the Unova region, cutting off the other Pokemon like that).

How many Pokemon should the gym leaders have?
Like...
1st Gym leader - 3 Pokemon
2nd Gym leader - 4 Pokemon

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we're going to use pokemon from other generations. I was also pretty peeved when they didn't use any old pokemon in fifth gen. (I don't usually use the word "peeved", I think it sounds funny)

And yeah, gyms are going to start out with few pokemon. But we should try to avoid gym leaders having two or more of the same pokemon on their team. I always found that annoying.

Yes! It's like, "Ok, finally I killed that <Insert really tough pokemon here>! Oh no, they just sent out another <Insert really tough pokemon here>!"

Anywho, I'm going to try my hand at human sprites, so I can help with the gym leaders.

Back on this topic, as we already have an appreciable quantity of fakemon maybe we could start developing gym-leader characters: appearence,type preference,background (it would be good to know a little bit more about the gym-leaders personality) and of course, pokemons.

About including ourselves on the game that could a kind of quest after beating the elite four. Something like : beat the 30 legendary trainers . However 30-40 may be too many... perhaps being average trainers could be interesting too.

PS: Arnau? compte Arnau? where did kingddd get the name?

About the gyms, can we please do all double battles against gyms. I mean I love double battles but they are non existant for the most part in the game.

I'm sure we can include plenty of double battles, but probably not for the gyms. I'm sure we can have at least one gym leader that challenges you to a double battle, though. Like in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. Maybe we can make two pokemon that are parallel so they can be used by the gym leader.

If I have a leader after me, it will have... OSHAWOTT!

Has anybody picked being a fire type gym leader? If not I begs it cause they are my fave types of pokemon! Cyndaquil would be my main pokemon but it will get knocked out by the trainer's evolved pokemon so yeah..not a good idea. I could go with Typolshin instead as my main and use other random fire types that are way different. I can't come up with a good gym leader name so can anyone help me out with that? Thanks.

I think we're going to have to use our own pokemon as the gym leaders' signature pokemon. After all, we made them ourselves and it's our game. There's no reason to use Game Freak's work to showcase our gym leaders. We can use some GF pokemon on the gym leaders' teams, but definitely not as signature pokemon.

Maybe having something similar to the Battle Tower with us and our fully fledged teams in them? While Fire is my favourite type, I could never have an all Fire team, so, how does that sound?

That's not a bad idea. I think we'll definitely have some areas where we can make teams to represent the people working on this.

Why are all the outlines white? And what type do you specialize in?

The outlines are white because paint doesn't like black outlines. Also, you're going to have to sprite it again to make it 3rd gen sizes.

Dark-types. And I can resize it without having to sprite again.

3rd Gen overworlds are done using a different template and in a different style. Size isn't the only difference.

You might want to try downloading a better program than paint. Gimp works pretty well, plenty of people use it. It's free, too.

The only program that I know to use correctly is Paint.
