    Elastick (normal-type) Empty Elastick (normal-type)

    Post by Gelatino95 Fri Oct 21, 2011 7:32 pm

I have a new concept for a pokemon. I have some art ready, but I'm waiting until I can scan it. For now, just imagine a Starman Jr. from Earthbound with two white eyes inside its black visor and with rounded arms. Here's the information I do have so far, though:

    Elastick (normal-type) Th_Elastick2-1
    Name: Elastick (subject to change)
    Type: Normal
    Species: The rubber pokemon
Pokedex entry: The muscles in its arm can stretch up to ten times their normal length. This allows it to strike its foes from a long distance.
Ability: Thermaproof or Sniper (under debate)
    Concept art: https://2img.net/h/i768.photobucket.com/albums/xx324/Gelatino95/elastick-1.png?t=1319287824

    Base stats:
    Hp- 90
    Atk- 100
    Def- 75
    SpA- 100
    SpD- 65
    Spe- 80

^ Those are also subject to change.

I don't know the complete movepool yet, but I know that it'll know Selfdestruct and/or Explosion. It can explode when it curls into a ball (at least that's how I imagine it)

I can imagine this guy like a rubber ball... It is a perfect user of a ton of moves including fighting types and grass types such as grass knot and power whip! Seeing it's a mixed sweeper, it could use all the moves effectively... But since rubber is affected with ice (Cold rubber could not stretch) We can give it an ability that lowers speed when hit by an ice type attack but raises attack stat and when hit by a fire type attack it lowers the attack but raises the speed... But maybe we have something similar I think I'll go check!

So... Going through the abilities section I found two abilities: Your thermaproof ability that protect from burn/freeze status and Jwoo's insulation ability that is unsure of what it will do but has something related to being immune to electric.

Here is my idea: We can name the ability ectotherm wich means regulating body temperature via the environement... The effect: If the user is hit by an ice type attack it lowers speed and raises the attack stat. If the user is hit by a fire type attack, it lowers attack and raises speed.

The reason why I came up with this is because rubber becomes hard when cooled and soft when heated...
    But thats just a suggestion!

We have the Molten ability, which lowers speed when hit by water and rises when hit by fire. The problem is that rubber isn't exactly molten, so that wouldn't work because of the name. I haven't really thought of a good ability for this guy. Maybe Aftermath, since it's supposed to explode?

I don't know, that stuff sounds kind of complicated. I think we better stick with one of the more basic abilities. Thermaproof would work nicely.

Pretty cool, we need some normal types.

Personally, I'd give it Sniper as it's ability.

Sniper actually makes a lot of sense, since it strikes opponents by shooting out its stretchy appendages.

I just finished some really good concept art for this guy (in pencil; no colors yet) but I have yet to scan it. I'll probably have it up tomorrow.

    Got the concept art:

    Elastick (normal-type) Elastick-1

Not in color yet, but the body is supposed to be light yellow and the stripes and face are navy blue.

Also have a sprite outline, if anybody wants to give it a shot:

    Elastick (normal-type) Th_elastick_outline

Here's my attempt so far. Haven't started shading yet and I think the stripes might be too wide, but they're really hard to do on such a small sprite.

    Elastick (normal-type) Elastick-2

Looks kind of like Deoxys to me. I was more kind of imagining a Gollet-like creature, but that's just my opinion.

I like the sprite, but is it really supposed to be that small?

The sprite size is 64x64, just like all gen 3 sprites. I made it so it doesn't take up the entire space since it's not exactly a giant pokemon in comparison to others like Groudon and such.

    Elastick (normal-type) Spr_3r_354Elastick (normal-type) Elastick-2

Here it is next to Banette for a size comparison.

Nice concept art! I like it... The sprite is too small... I mean next to banette it looks like its lacking details! The head is too small the eyes are practically invisible. But really the concept art is tooooooo coooooooooool! good work!

Some of the reasons it looks like it's lacking details are:

    a) I haven't shaded it yet
    b) Banette has a bigger head, leaving more room for facial details
    c) Elastick is a fairly basic pokemon as it is

Although I think it wouldn't hurt to make it a bit bigger.

Oh I see! Sorry if I was a little negative in my comment! I was referring that the size of the sprite is too small to do big pokemon. I thought how a Gyarados would look on a sprite that small! Anyway good luck... hope it will turn out to be great!

Generally, a bigger pokemon would take up more space on a sprite, like Groudon for example. However, even smaller pokemon have to be enlarged sometimes to show detail.

Here's a larger outline. It's still 64x64, but takes up more of the frame:

    Elastick (normal-type) Elastick_outline2Elastick (normal-type) Spr_3r_354

(put next to Banette for size comparison)

Now this is much better! But keep the colors they are great but as you said maybe the lines on the legs need to be thinner!

    Elastick (normal-type) Elasti10

Note the minor additions to design and alterations to the outline. Also note that, without these additions, it would have been far too dull.

I'm not really happy with the dark leg, will see what I can do about that.

I don't really see the additions to the outline, but I like how you did the stripes and the new circle in the middle. Makes it look even more like Deoxys, but whatever.

Maybe you can improve the leg by adding some lighter shading to the left. Also, the super dark outline on the leg and other shaded parts contrasts a bit too much with the highlighted outline, in my opinion.

Also, the black on the shaded parts is for consistency with the Adv style.

How a weirdy thing...good job both with artwork and sprite anyway. About the pkdx; shouldn't be human made or created as a result of a human activity? Because it doesn't seems natural at all... Very Happy

Neither do Deoxys, Escavalier, Chandelure, Vanilluxe, Klinklang, Magnezone, Voltorb... you understand, right? There are plenty of pokemon that look man-made, but actually aren't. There are also some real animals that look fake. You know, when they first discovered the platypus, they thought it was a hoax? Not sure if that's completely relevant, but it's still pretty freaky. A better example would be that atlas moths (the inspiration for Volcarona) look like they have maps written on their wings, but they're obviously not man-made.

Got rid of the white background and changed the black outline to almost black (R:16 B:16 G:16) since Game Freak hardly ever uses flat black on their sprites.
