New Pokemon Section Empty New Pokemon Section

    Post by Gelatino95 Fri Apr 29, 2011 12:27 am

This is the new pokemon section.

Here, we will discuss multiple things that all pertain to new pokemon that may be used in our game. This includes basic concepts, concept art, and advanced building of Pokemon, such as movepool and base stats. We will be working on:
    • Starters
    • Legendaries
    • Everything else

We're aiming for about 100-150 new pokemon, much like other new generations do.

When making a thread here, in order to keep things organized, it's best to make an entire thread for one pokemon, and determine all the info on a pokemon on that one thread. Here is some of the info that you'll need to include:

    • Concept art
    • Sprites
    • Type
    • Ability
    • Gender ratio
    • Base stats
    • Level-up moves
    • TM moves
    • Other moves (move tutor, exclusive moves, etc.)

Have you ever seen Serebii.net? We want our threads to contain most of the info found on Serebii's pokedex pages.

That should be it for the New Pokemon section. Have fun!

    RULES OF THIS SECTION:
    1. ALL sprites must be made from scratch. No bases or parts from existing pokemon sprites may be used.
    2. Please make only ONE thread per ONE evolutionary line. Do not compile more than one line on one thread.
    3. Please use the name of your move/ability in the thread title. It makes it much easier to navigate the section.

I think It'd be better to post a thread about every evolutionary line rather than EVERY Pokemon. It would cut down the count of threads needed and would organize more efficiently.

Good thinking, Ter. That's probably what's going to happen. I was just thinking about Bulbapedia too much, I guess.

Alright, first off, I think we'll need to think up some starter Pokemon. I have a concept for a Defensive Water/Ground starter that I'd like to share; it's a Water elephant.
EDIT: I had no clue there was a Water/Ground starter already, so I'm switching the typing to Water/Rock

    Pachystar
    The Pachyderm Pokemon
    Water type
Move pool: Tackle (lvl 1) Harden (lvl 3) Bubble [lvl 8] Sand swipe (lvl 14)
Evolves to Shellephant at lvl 17

    Health:[]
    Attack:[]
    Sp.Atk: []
    Defence:[][]
    Sp.Def:[]
    Speed:
*each '[]' equals one point on a scale of 4, no '[]' means the stat is very low.

    Shelephant
    The Pachyderm Pokemon
    Water/Rock type
Move Pool: You can make one yourself
Evolves to Cramoth at [you choose]
    Health:[][]
    Attack:[]
    Sp.Atk: [][]
    Defence:[][][]
    Sp.Def:[][]
    Speed:[]

    Cramoth
    The Mammoth pokemon
    Water/Rock
Move pool: Earthquake and Muddy Water as a definate, but you make one Razz
    Health:[][][]
    Attack:[][]
    Sp.Atk: [][]
    Defence:[][][][]
    Sp.Def:[][][]
    Speed:[][]

    NOTE:
    --------------------------------------------------------------
To put some authenticity into a Pokemon, I'd recommend naming Pokemon's names to play a pun on one or two English or foreign words. Eg. Octillery is Octopus and Artillery, Treecko is Tree and Gecko, Skarmory is a play on Armory, etc. You don't have to follow these rules for every Pokemon though.

Reserving Post for upcoming Fire Starter concept.

    Flarret (Flare+Ferret)
    New Pokemon Section Flarre10
    Fire

    HP: []
    Atk:[][]
    Def:
    SpA:[][
    SpD:[
    Spe:[][]
(Note how there are half blocks and not just full blocks)

I imagine this having boosting moves like Swords Dance and Dragon Dance (Won't be part Dragon type though) and boosting up so it can devastate opponents. I don't think that evolutions of this would need a secondary type, too.

I like your idea, Ter, and water/ground is a very good type combo. We already have a water/ground starter in the Hoenn region, but if you can impress me with some nice concept art, this idea would seem even more appealing to me.

Not saying I don't like it, but I'm just saying the idea's already been used.

If you don't mind, Ter, I'd like to try making some concept art for a water elephant. I've got some ideas in mind to seperate it from Phanphy.

Good idea, Ferrety. I already think Phanhpy is pretty ugly as it is.

And I like your concept art. It's been much too long since we've had a pure fire starter. And also... thank you for not making it part Fighting. Thank you SO MUCH.

Well then, I bet you weren't expecting this.
    New Pokemon Section Pachys10

I based it on This. To avoid becoming too Phanphy-ish I ditched the Blue base colour and went for brown, which also has the nice effect of making the bright colours stand out more. To be honest, I don't think it says 'Water' much right now, so if anyone wants to suggest anything I'd be glad to make alterations.

It's okay, Ter. You can come up with as many ideas as you like even if you can't draw them.

Ferrety, I'd suggest not using so many colors. What you have now would look extremely busy (an artist's word for "complicated") as a sprite. I'd suggest keeping the colors at a maximum of three: main body color, secondary body color, and detail color. Sort of like how Spore has three layers of color.

And also, it looks a bit too "realistic" if you know what I mean. Try to make it look not much like an elephant, but like a made-up creature. You don't have to keep the bodily proportions of an elephant; you can give it a big head, slender body, overly long trunk, whatever looks cool without looking too much like a real elephant.

And also, I'm in the process of spriting your Flarret art right now.

I guess I'll re-do the head and modify the colours a bit. Thanks for the advice, I'm not much of an artist.

Also, I can't wait to see how Flarret turns out.

I'd appreciate it if you could incorporate a shell-like armor on it due to its defensive status and name, and possibly make the tusks jagged, not refined. Thanks!

    It had tusks?

Also, I could easily develop the cloth on it's back into a shell. Thanks for your input, Ter.

This is the first time I've ever scratched* a sprite, but I think it's pretty good:

EDIT: oops, forgot the yellow on the ears.

I do like it. However, Pokemon sprites usually don't use pillow shading much, and use a lighter coloured outline only on the Top-Left, where the light source is. It may also be a good idea to know what style you're spriting in (eg. RS, DP, BW), as each of those use different canvas sizes and colours. I would personally say that looks too big for a first stage pokemon.

(Yes, I used to make scratch sprites. I wasn't very good, but I know how they work)

Very good advice, Ferrety. In fact, this guy is turning into quite a project. I'd suggest making a new thread for him.

And I think the sprites are going to be in the style of either DP or BW (they are very similar). The canvas size is always 96x96, that is the standard.

Do sprites in RSE style (80x80. Not only are they simpler, but I found something that will basically let us create a Pokemon game(Needs RPG Maker XP though) that uses 80x80 sprites.

    Anyway, onto the artwork...

The shell doesn't look all that great in my opinion, but making decent shells is harder than it sounds.

You need an avatar, Ferrety. Besides that, I sort of like the new head shape you gave the elephant. Pretty cute.

I'm starting to like this elephant idea, so I may make some concept art for it. I draw better with pencil and paper than with MS paint, so I may start on that.

Yeah, pencil and paper are the bomb when it comes to drawing. I'd send some of my sketches, but I don't have a scanner or a printer that works right now, so I'm a tad screwed. Neutral

I think I have an idea for a grass starter: VEGEMOLE

    New Pokemon Section 500587334126_lrg

Based on the one I made in Spore. Grass/ground. Eventually evolves into MOLKING!

    New Pokemon Section 500588334942_lrg

I've tried some concept art for Vegemole, and I may come up with a sprite eventually.

I, myself, really like the cloth, it reminds me of Mexico, a place teeming with culture.

Also, Vegemole is awesome! It looks like it would be some kind of root-like plant...

Anyway, I have a starter evolution called, Teuthnami, Luscagom and Krakenous. Teuthnami and Luscagom are water, but Krakenous is Water/Dark. If you went by my final-evolution cycle-thing, Molking would be Grass/Fighting.

I was planning on making Vegemole Grass/Ground.

But I really like your idea of a Kraken water starter. If we don't end up using it as a starter, it would make an even better legendary.
