Catric and Ampedo

This is the thread for a currently unnamed Electric Catfish. Guess the typing.

Just an idea, but maybe it could evolve into an Electric Ray Poke'mon?


I was going to suggest Babrelectric for a name, but I think it's too long.

I never thought you'd guess the typing. Here's a picture of it's evolution:

An electric ray would be a nice idea. And I'm assuming this is electric/water. However, maybe it's a good idea to stray away from the same color scheme as Chinchou and Lanturn, the other electric/water types. Maybe we can make it dark green and yellow instead of blue and yellow?

Also, I was thinking, maybe this Poke'mon should take the role of Magikarp in this region?

Magikarp doesn't really have a "role" in any other region. Unless, of course, you mean the annoying fish that you can never cross a single body of water without encountering. In that case, we would have to make it a rather weak pokemon that evolves at a high level so that it will be difficult to train. Otherwise, it's like you're giving the players an infinite source of really good pokemon for their team. We want to give this game a bit of a challenge, don't we?

To me it seems a lot like stunfisk

I like both ideas; let's make it a usual water pkm but with a powerfull evolution. Althought i do like the first pkm in the evolutionary chain i think ferrety could come up with something better for the ray-pkm. No offense, but we have already two pkms with bones attached (the kdd dinosaur and Skullink).

I was thinking this at first too. But doesn't Stunfisk seem very similar to Whiscash? And doesn't Sandile seem quite similar to Totodile? What about Ekans and Seviper? What about...um... uh...

I just thought up some names for this electric cat fish thing that you did. Catric seems like an okay name suggestion since it's a combination of electric and cat.

Catric is a good name. And what about that evolution, ferrety? What do you mean it's a "joke"? It's genius. We haven't had any ray pokemon in far too long. An electric ray is like taking the natural concept of stinging and making it into a somewhat unnatural concept of electricity. Like the jellyfish on Spongebob. It works. Let's do it.

If you do decide to keep the Electric Ray, which, as Gelo said, splendidly portrays the misconception that stinging is electric, I think it's name should/could be Torpedohm, it's Torpedo (see:

It's just an idea, don't pressure yourself.

Actually, I see your point. I just checked the wikipedia article. A ray that's capable of generating electricity? Sounds sweet.

However, we should try out different names. You know, there are plenty of units of measure used in electricity: volts, amps, and ohms to name a few. Let's come up with as many combinations as possible, shall we?

- Volpedo
- Torpevolt
- Ampedo
- Torpedamp
- Ohmpedo
- Torpedohm

My favorites out of the list are Ampedo and Torpedohm (your suggestion) but I prefer Ampedo. What do you think?

I always liked how Ohm sounded, however, Ampedo sounds smoother than Torpedohm.


All in all, I think Ferrety should get to decide (IF he approves of the Ray), but I think I'll go for Ampedo.

Hang on a minute. Is'nt there a pokemon that already has the torpedo in their name? I thought Sharpedo was supposed to be named after it. :/

I think it's named after the Naval Weapon, because it somewhat resembles one, and it's not an electric type so I kind of doubt it's named after the ray...

Okay, I guess no-one really got the joke. The joke was that it looked skeletal, like it was ghost type.

Anyways, I do actually like the idea of a Ray. It'll probably keep the Green and Yellow colour scheme, but I can't think of any way to make it seem more like an Electric type.

And on the subject of names, I honestly don't mind what name it has. I'd rather it have a name everyone likes rather than one only I do.

I like Ampedo. I think I'll make a drawing of these guys when I'm done with Draven.

EDIT: I couldn't come up with a good design for Draven, so I made some drawings for these guys. I actually really like them. I'll scan them whenever I can.
