The Player's Character

I believe the first thing we should cover in the Characters section should be the player, the character that the player will be controlling.

I'll just keep this thread reserved until I can come up with some concept art, or maybe a sprite.

I'm pretty bad at coming up with human designs, so if anyone has an idea for this, feel free to add.

Why not make so you can customize your own character? Or atleast choose from many different?

I don't know if the game-making software would support that kind of customization. But in theory, that's a great idea. I never did really like any of the people that Game Freak made us use (except for the Hoenn guy) so being able to choose your guy would be nice.

First of all, you said we are not actually making a game, so the soft ware wouldn't matter, second of all we don't need to edit the character to a pixil scale, just like choose what clothes he wears and stuff.

Not quite. I have a way we could make the game if someone has RPG Maker XP. And I do not. So we could make it, but I don't know if anyone has the software.

We could do it in java because that allows pretty much everything and I HAPPEN TO BE LEARNING JAVA PROGRAMMING.

Pokemon is a surprisingly complex game, with EVs and IVs and such. If you were to program it in Java, I would assume you'd need quite a bit of experience. Failing that, we could simplify the mechanics...

Is RPG Maker XP something that can be downloaded from the internet? If so, it seems like it would be pretty easy to get a hold of.

I know this sounds weird... but I'd like a male character with a bit longer hair, maybe not long, but longer than what they have it...

Long hair is cool. We can definitely do that. If you could come up with some concept art, then that would be super. I suck at human designs.

Eww, no. Don't try to make humans in Spore. In case you haven't noticed, Pokemon art is made in an anime style, and Spore just doesn't support that kind of style. In Spore, you can make simplified 3D models of creatures from your imagination using pre-made parts. In pokemon, it's totally different. Concept art must be drawn.

Sorry to rant, but it's just that a Spore creation would not make good concept art. Pick up a pencil and try drawing.

I'll try and make something in Gimp, expect graphics that Poke'mon Blue would scowl at.

actually i dont think pokemon essentials came with battle animations for a girl...

Here is the boy main character. I picked purple as the color scheme not because it is my fav color (which it is) but because i am going to make the girl character in pink that way using pink and purple (colors on title screen). Im still hoping that we can make the city at the start of the game a bigger city, shown by the fact that he is dressed in more modern clothes including a sideways hat. im thinking the generic names that will be choices when you pick him at the beginning are:
Joel
Manny
Mario
Ash
and of course Radon

those are actually really good. one thing tho is the battle sprite is based from fire red so you have to do one with his arm full out throwing the pokeball. if both of ours are liked i guess we'll take a poll. what do think of mine though?

I like both designs... J do it like DiZ... I mean show the sprite in all positions that way we can decide more.
